i’ve been playing olly murs‘ “heart skips a beat“ non-stop since i discovered it a few days ago. i can’t seem to get it out of my head. it’s such a cheeky song – featuring slick reggae like beats and a hook that will get stuck in your head for days. i always have a soft spot for these sort of light pop tracks because they provide breathing space in between  a sea of over produced tunes. it also helps that olly murs is a cute looking chap. so who is this guy? he was the runner-up in the sixth edition of the x-factor uk. since then he’s transformed from being a reality reject to full fledged musician … or something like that.  check out the equally adorable music video below. oh olly!

new artist alert. check out the debut single “heaven” from scottish singer emeli sande. after several years of working behind the scene as a song writer for artists like leona lewis, cheryl cole and tinie tempah – emeli is ready to step out into the spotlight. back in 2010, she signed a publishing deal emi music publishing. later it was announced that she had also been given a record deal with virgin records. hooray for my work!

emeli is currently revamping her debut album, which in fact dropped a few months ago in the uk, for the us debut. “heaven” is the perfect single to announce her presence. not only has it been critically acclaimed over seas but also it has garnered massive public appeal. once you listen to the track you will understand. leona lewis must be jealous because this is the track she wished she recorded. just imagine a strong leona lewis-like voice over massive trip-hop beats. there’s no boring found in this track.

talk about a throwback to the early 2000s. remember sean paul? i used to break it down to his tracks like “we be burnin’”, “temperature” and “(when you gonna) give it up to me”.  he was the pitbullof the early 2000s. for real! he was featured on every track and had a moderate solo career. hell, he even was on a beyoncé track (“baby boy”) before she became BEYONCÉ, alroight?

well now mr. sean paul has returned with not only a comeback single but also a new do. gone are the rows and present is a hawk. to be honest i’m missing his trademark hawk. oh well. his new single “got 2 luv u” features the incredible and overlooked alexis jordan (she deserves a major break, people). it’s a fun, sassy tune that reminds me of “(when you gonna) give it up to me”. now, don’t me started on the ridiculous title. i have such a pet peeve over text language. please people, spell out your words. it’s not that hard. anyway, what sells the track isn’t sean paul unfortunately. his verses don’t really stick. the mvp of the track is actually alexis. her hook and chorus are sexy and infectious. it got me booty tootin’ a la tyra banks.
