“you’ve changed” is the first single from sia’s upcoming fifth full length studio album, “we are born.” sia first caught my ears when she worked with zero 7 and with her hauntingly beautiful track, “breathe me.” her new single is a change from her dark indie-electropop roots. it’s mainstream, catchy and light. this change makes sense though, right? i mean, people don’t have real problems anymore, right? let’s just dance. “we are born” will drop this spring.

February 3, 2010 by itrytoohardother than blasting the “a single man” soundtrack over and over at work and sobbing underneath my desk, jason mraz’s beautiful track “plane” has been on constant repeat. “plane” was one of my favorite tracks from his second full length studio album “mr. a-z.” it’s a track that features strange lyrics but also showcases heart-wrenching vocals. i’ve always been a fan of mraz’s vocals because of how strong they are. although it’s subtle – his easy from switching to chest to head voice is incredibly smooth.

January 31, 2010 by itrytoohardi’m usually not a fan of remixes but this one between passion pit and lady gaga is just too good to pass up. it’s one of the coolest collaborations i’ve heard in a long time.
over the weekend, i downloaded the passion pit remix of lady gaga’s “telephone,” her next single from “the fame: monster.” as you know, i’ve been obsessed with the album version of this track because of how major it is. to refresh you – the track deceptively starts with finger-picking guitars and a passionate plea from gaga to her lover about the growing distance between them. the ruse is quickly discarded when the song launches into its full synthy swing, driven by a thumping beat. on top of that, beyoncé’s cameo nearly takes this song from dance track to a fight song. now back to the present – i was eager to hear the massacheusetts indie-electronic remix of this song.
the passion pit remix begins with gaga’s vocals cranked up over minimal electronic grooves. however, like the original version, it soon transforms into another song completely. the song becomes completely disparate from the original, ending in a jittery electronic fusion that sounds simultaneously melodic and ominous.

January 26, 2010 by itrytoohardnew artist alert. meet vv brown the multi-talent singer and producer from the uk. she just released her first us single called “shark in the water,” a track that contains all breezy acoustic strums, insanely catchy melodies and a chorus that explodes seemingly from nowhere. it’s a brilliant first single if i don’t say so myself. she first caught the ears of the music world for her interesting genre of indie doo wop. she was nominated for the bbc’s sound of 2009 award, alongside acts including little boots and lady gaga. “shark in the water” is a great combination of her personal style along with the commercial appeal.

January 25, 2010 by itrytoohard“rocket” is the first single from one of my favorite electropop artists goldfrapp upcoming album “head first.” the track is a departure from their usual sound. it’s fresh and unexpected. after a disco stomp of “supernature” and the introverted “seventh three,” this new goldfrapp track sounds unlike anything the duo has done before. the mid-tempo “rocket” reminds me of early 80s american synth-driven pop. it’s catchy and incredibly delicious.
